Challenge
Canadian energy storage companies currently face significant barriers when entering the Southern California market, including navigating complex government procurement processes, regulations, certifications, and incentive programs. Additionally, establishing connections with key customers, industry partners, and investors in a highly competitive region can be daunting without the right guidance. For mid-stage companies with innovative cleantech solutions, these challenges can hinder their ability to scale effectively and achieve commercial success.
Solution
The SoCal CleanTech Express, now in its 5th edition, addresses these challenges through a hybrid program combining virtual sessions with a February 2025 in-person roadshow. Designed to accelerate the growth of 8-10 selected Canadian energy storage companies, the program provides tailored mentorship, advisory support, and access to an extensive cleantech network. Participants gain insights into government procurement, regulatory compliance, and available incentives, alongside opportunities to connect with utilities, heavy industries, and high-energy-use facilities across Southern California.
In partnership with the Consulate General of Canada and CleanTech San Diego, the roadshow spans key counties including San Diego, Riverside, and San Bernardino. Companies deliver targeted pitches to local stakeholders and participate in pre-arranged visits tailored to specific industry needs. The eight-day initiative ensures meaningful engagement through networking sessions, needs-based matchmaking, and actionable insights that empower Canadian companies to thrive in the U.S. market.
